Have you ever noticed how the smallest and easiest projects can sometimes be the most satisfying? That’s basically how I feel about what I’m sharing today–it’s a simple DIY framed sheet music project that is easy peasy, but really special. See, a few weeks ago my mom actually gave this old hymnal, which just so happened to be from the church I attended as a child. You guys, I can vividly remember standing in church as a young girl, singing songs from this hymnal. So it’s pretty special now to have my own copy all these years later. When my mom gave it to me I knew I wanted to frame a few of the pages, I just wasn’t sure how because they’re not like a standard sized photo. I thought about making my own small frames, but to be honest I just didn’t feel up to that kind of project. So I came up with an alternative that worked just as well. I’m excited to show you guys how simple this was and I think it would also work with any type of old book pages or sheet music. Or even articles from a vintage magazine, maybe even letters from a loved one. Whatever your little heart desires. OK, let’s hop to it!
So my sheet music pages are a little less than 5×7 in size, so I picked up these open black frames (similar one here) that work with a variety of different sized photos. I knew I wanted them to have a little texture and dimension, so I also picked up some burlap. I started by simply taking the frames apart and cutting a piece of burlap for each frame. I just measured the burlap using the glass as my guide to make three little burlap sheets to go in each frame.
Once I had that ready to go all I did was place each music sheet into the frame first, then taped it in place at the top and bottom of the page. You definitely don’t want that sucker sliding around. Then I covered it with the burlap and put the frame back together. EASSSSSSSSSSSSSY.
This project literally took 15 minutes to do and I love it. I think the black frames go perfectly with the burlap, which adds a bit of texture. They really pop on that white shiplap, huh?! Now I’m kind of kicking myself for not doing six frames instead of just three..a whole collage would have been awesome. Guess I’l just have to go back to Target for more frames!
These old hymnal sheets are so special to me and I love that I have them framed now. They remind me of simpler days, where you sang from an old tattered hymnal in your best dress on a Sunday morning in church. And like I said earlier, it’s always these simple, sentimental projects that I end up loving the most. Well I hope you enjoyed this easy little DIY project too and I hope this inspires you to frame something special of your own. These open glass frames are so fun because you can do something as small as an old recipe card or as large as a letter from a loved one. The possibilities are endless! And if you’re looking for old hymnal pages, here are a few options:
